Parents and the Law Program (PAL) features 23 high school lessons aimed at strengthening families and preventing the incidence of child abuse and neglect through law-related education. This program teaches young parents practical law and life skills and encourages the attitudes necessary to strengthen families and escape the cycle of violence. PAL teaches parents the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate a maze of legal issues related to parental rights and responsibilities, custody, child support, abuse, neglect, domestic violence, discrimination, education, housing and consumer laws. Interactive lessons focus on student skill development. Numerous opportunities are included for practicing skills (critical thinking and interpersonal skills) through role-playing, simulation, mock trial, case dilemmas, legislative hearing, etc., and problem solving. This program is developed by Street Law, Inc. (formerly known as National Institute for Citizen Education and the Law) and is coordinated in Hawaii by Matt Mattice. Matt can be reached by
